BHP Billiton Liberia Marathon

The first ever BHP Liberia Marathon organized by the Liberia Marathon Trust in conjunction with the Liberia Athletic Federation with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sport is sponsor by the BHP Billiton, International Bank Liberia and other entities.

The inaugural BHP Billiton Liberia Marathon is scheduled for August 28, 2011 in Monrovia Liberia. And it’s more than just am 26 miles race to the finish line with 1500 participants expected to part take for the $3000US Grand Prize.

The Marathon is slogan “The Race is on. Let’s Finish Together” is symbolic of Liberia’s steady, long distance progress towards the future that can only be fulfilled through Unity, Perseverance, Achievement, Peace and Inclusiveness.

The race is destined to be a historic event encouraging Liberia and runners from around the world to run side by side to accomplish something never done before in Liberia.

Liberia has a reputation of being a nation of first: it is the first country in Africa to gain independence and is home to the first female president in Africa, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Organizers have identified an attractive course that guides runners through various communities in the lovely city and past some of its most beautiful because along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

The event is not a fundraiser for charities; however, the organizers encourage individuals to “run for a cause” and seek sponsorship if so desired.
