Liberian Journalists to Celebrate 47th Anniversary in Ganta

Liberian journalists are set to celebrate their Union’s 47th anniversary celebration in Ganta Nimba County. The celebrations which promise to be colorful will begin from Friday September 30 to Sunday October 2.

According to the Press Union of Liberia the Ganta’s celebration like the past one held in Gbarnga and Buchanan is intended to decentralize the Press Union of Liberia and for rural journalist to also feel a part of the Union’s activities.

The Press Union of Liberia was founded on September 30, 1964 to protect the rights of media, free speech and promote democracy.

According to the Planning Committee, this year’s celebration will be held under the theme Stand Up For Good Journalism and it is expected to feature several key activities aimed at improving the quality of media services to the nation during this critical period of elections.

The journalists are expected to parade through the principal streets of Ganta and will converged later to discuss on pertaining issues regarding the Liberian media. It is also expected that the Media Complaint Committee will be set up during the Ganta’s celebration.

In addition they will address the issue of journalists being underpaid by their bosses and to ensure that journalists work under a conducive atmosphere. Meanwhile, in order to make the program successful each journalist will pay the amount of $ 10.00 as individual contribution for the 47th PUL’s anniversary.

Journalists are already discussing the Ganta’s celebration in several quarters, which suggest that they are in full readiness to storm Ganta on 30th September.
